Every deal worth $600 or more (added up per payer) entered since July 1, 2025 or the start of junior year, whichever is later, must be reported through NIL Go within 14 days of starting classes or before the first game.
Recruits enrolling on or after August 1, 2026 may hire agents under the April 15, 2026 Division I rule. The NJCAA still ends eligibility for a written agent agreement.

Can high school athletes in South Dakota make NIL money?
Yes. High school athletes in South Dakota can take NIL deals, with conditions. SDHSAA Constitution and By-Laws, Athletic/Activities By-Laws Section 6 (Amateur Standing), 'Name, Image, and Likeness (Updated 2024)': a student may receive remuneration for use of name, picture, likeness and/or personal appearance subject to 11 conditions. Effective July 1, 2024; unchanged in the 2026-27 edition (revised 7/26, provisions effective to June 30, 2027).
Do South Dakota athletes have to tell the school about an NIL deal?
None statewide. None; no reporting requirement in the bylaw.
Does a travel ball or club deal count in South Dakota?
State association rules follow the athlete, not where the deal came from. A deal through a travel team is fine as long as nothing ties back to the school team. Applies to students in SDHSAA-sanctioned sports; nothing reaches club play. SDHSAA bylaws also cover member-school junior-high participation but the NIL text does not distinguish grade levels.
Can a South Dakota high school athlete use an agent for NIL?
Allowed. Students 'may use professional NIL services for advice, representation, and marketing' provided the service is not an employee/contractor of the school or school-affiliated organization.
